They also sell and install commercial aluminum flagpoles from 20 to 80 ft, for businesses, schools, churches and government sites across Alabama. Real Work

Two American Manufacturers, One Installed Project

Most flagpole companies resell somebody else's pole and buy their flags from an importer. This is the opposite of that. Alabama Flag & Banner has sewn American flags in their Huntsville shop since 1985, cutting the blue fields, slitting the stripes, hemming and joining every piece. FlagCo builds the pole in Acworth, Georgia.

So on an Alabama project you get the flag from the people who sewed it and the pole from the people who machined it, set by the same crew. They install statewide, from Birmingham office parks to Gulf Coast sites, in commercial aluminum from 20 to 80 ft, external halyard or internal, with the hardware to match.

They handle the outliers too. In November 2025 they set a 5,000 lb steel pole on eight tons of concrete overlooking Lake Guntersville, flying a 30 by 60 ft flag they sewed in the Huntsville shop (covered by the Sand Mountain Reporter). That one was steel and well past the 80 ft FlagCo manufactures. Most days the work is a 25 ft pole outside an office, and it gets the same rigging and the same foundation math.

Our side starts in Acworth, Georgia, a couple of hours from Birmingham, where FlagCo cuts, machines and finishes 6063-T6 aluminum shafts per ASTM B 221, rated per NAAMM FP 1001-07 and backed by a limited lifetime warranty on the shaft. Their crew, our pole, one point of contact.

Know Your Wind Zone

Alabama Wind Zones Run from 90 to 120 MPH

FlagCo's wind speed data (ASCE 7-10, 3-second gust at 33 ft above ground) puts most of Alabama in a 90 mph zone. The southern third of the state, Dothan included, typically needs a 100 mph rated pole per NAAMM FP 1001-07, and coastal Mobile and Baldwin County sites need 110 to 120. Look up your exact address for a precise number.

The Manufacturer + Installer Model

Why FlagCo and Alabama Flag & Banner

What an Install Involves

Five Steps From Quote to Flag in the Air

The same process whether it's a 20 ft pole outside a small office or an 80 ft pole at a corporate campus.

  1. 1

    Tell them about your project

Call or send the form with your pole height, location and timeline. Most poles can be quoted with installation from those details; Alabama Flag & Banner walks the site first when the project calls for it.

  2. 2

    Wind and code check

Alabama's wind zones run 90 to 120 mph under ASCE 7-10 depending on where you are. Alabama Flag & Banner confirms the exact requirement for your address before the pole is ordered, and handles the permitting your municipality requires.

  3. 3

    Foundation work

Concrete foundation and steel ground sleeve, sized to the pole height. Set depth runs from 2 ft on a 20 ft pole up to 5 ft on a 50 ft pole.

  4. 4

    Pole erection and rigging

The FlagCo shaft goes in, halyard and hardware get rigged, and the spun aluminum flash collar goes on at grade.

  5. 5

    Lighting and final walkthrough

If you added a flagpole beacon, it gets mounted and wired on site. Alabama Flag & Banner walks you through the finished install before they leave.

Alabama Flagpole FAQ

Common Questions

What business owners and facility managers ask before installing a commercial flagpole in Alabama.

How much does a commercial flagpole cost installed in Alabama?

Installed cost depends on pole height, foundation and site conditions (concrete, asphalt, turf or a slope), whether you're adding lighting, and site access for the crew and equipment. There's no single number that fits every site, but most poles can be quoted with installation from the details you provide; Alabama Flag & Banner walks the property first when the site calls for it, and either way you get a firm install quote rather than a rough guess. Request an install quote to get a real number for your site.

Do I need a permit to install a flagpole in Birmingham, Huntsville or Montgomery?

Permit requirements vary by city and county across Alabama. Some municipalities treat a commercial flagpole like any other structure and want a permit and a footing inspection; others do not. Alabama Flag & Banner handles permitting as part of the install and will tell you what your municipality requires before work starts.

What wind rating do I need for a flagpole in Alabama?

FlagCo's ASCE 7-10 data puts most of Alabama, including Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Decatur and Florence, at a 90 mph wind zone. The southern third of the state, including Dothan, typically needs a 100 mph rated pole. Coastal sites in Mobile and Baldwin County, including Daphne, Fairhope, Foley, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, run roughly 110 to 115 mph and need a 120 mph rated pole per NAAMM FP 1001-07, with a 110 mph band just inland of them. Look up your exact address on FlagCo's Wind Speed Tool to confirm.

Who actually installs the pole, FlagCo or Alabama Flag & Banner?

FlagCo manufactures the pole at our factory in Acworth, Georgia. Alabama Flag & Banner, a Huntsville flag and flagpole company and authorized FlagCo dealer, handles the foundation work and erection, with a site walk first when the project needs it. One quote covers both the pole and the install.

What flagpole heights and types are available?

FlagCo manufactures commercial flagpoles from 15 to 80 ft: external halyard, internal winch, internal cam cleat and reinforced configurations, rated from 85 to 170 mph per NAAMM FP 1001-07. Alabama Flag & Banner's commercial aluminum line runs 20 to 80 ft, and they carry residential options below that. They will help you match the type and height to your building and budget.

Can the flagpole be lit at night?

Yes. FlagCo makes flagpole beacons, lights that mount at the top of the pole and illuminate the flag after dark. The beacon ships with the pole order and is mounted on site during installation. Ask about beacon options when you request your quote.

What areas does Alabama Flag & Banner serve, and how long does installation take?

Alabama Flag & Banner is based in Huntsville and installs statewide, including Birmingham, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Decatur, Florence, Dothan and the Mobile area. Installation timeline depends on pole height, foundation work and permitting in your municipality; you'll get a project timeline with your quote.
