At 800 lumens on every power source and 3000K color temperature, the External Halyard Beacon provides effective illumination for flags up to approximately 5 feet by 8 feet on poles in the 20 to 35-foot range. For larger flags on taller external halyard poles, a higher-output Plus model may be appropriate. The output is calibrated for pole-top delivery, where the source sits inches from the flag rather than tens of feet below it, making the effective illuminance on the flag surface significantly higher than the raw lumen count suggests.

The External Halyard Flagpole Beacon is rated for external halyard poles with a top outside diameter of up to 5 inches. It threads onto the pole via a standard 1-1/4 inch NPT spindle, replacing the existing truck and ball ornament assembly. Before ordering for a retrofit installation, measure your pole's top outside diameter and confirm it runs an external halyard with a revolving truck. The 8-inch ball ornament is the decorative top element of the beacon assembly, equivalent to the ball finial on a standard flagpole truck. It sits above the LED housing. The ornament is available in Gold or Silver finish, and it carries the LED light source that illuminates the flag below. The ball profile maintains the traditional flagpole silhouette while integrating the lighting function. It does not serve a structural load-bearing role; all structural connection is through the NPT spindle at the base of the truck.

When ordered as part of a FlagCo Illuminator Package (flagpole plus beacon), the beacon and pole ship together but as separate components. The beacon is not factory-installed on the pole. The installer mounts the beacon on site during pole erection. This is standard practice: pole-top hardware is always installed in the field after the shaft is set in the foundation sleeve, never before, since the beacon must be wired through the pole interior before final assembly.

Ball ornament finish (Gold or Silver) and truck finish (Satin, Bronze, Black, or White) are specified independently. The most common pairings for government and institutional installations are Gold ball with Satin truck, or Gold ball with Bronze truck. DarkSky International (formerly the International Dark-Sky Association, darksky.org) issues approval for fixtures that meet criteria for minimizing upward luminous flux and light trespass. Yes. The FlagCo commercial warranty provides 3 years of coverage from the date of substantial completion when the beacon is installed and used in accordance with the provided installation instructions and applicable local codes. The LED modules are designed for a long service life and are field-replaceable if needed. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship. It does not cover damage from improper installation, misuse, or acts of nature outside the rated wind conditions for the pole.
